Transportation Dispatcher

Tank's Green StuffTucson, AZ
Onsite

About The Position

Tank's is looking for a no-nonsense Transportation Dispatcher who takes driver accountability seriously. This is not a passive scheduling role - we need someone who is actively watching, actively managing, and not afraid to have hard conversations. You will oversee approximately 10 drivers across three operations: roll-off container rentals and deliveries, product distribution to retail partners throughout Tucson and Phoenix, and internal site-to-site material transfers. Our drivers represent our company on the road every single day. We expect them to follow their routes, drive safely, stay on schedule, and operate in full compliance with DOT regulations. Your job is to make sure that happens - every day, no exceptions. If a driver is speeding, making unauthorized stops, skipping seatbelts, or cutting corners on compliance, you will catch it, document it, and address it.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a dispatch, fleet coordination, or transportation operations role
  • Familiarity with DOT regulations and driver compliance requirements
  • Proficiency with GPS fleet tracking and telematics software
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills - clear, professional, and calm under pressure
  • Proficiency with computers and general office software
  • Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated with a strong attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Experience dispatching drivers on multi-city routes (e.g., Tucson to Phoenix)
  • Background in waste management, construction materials, or product distribution
  • Experience with roll-off container or equipment delivery logistics
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Dispatch and coordinate daily operations for ~10 drivers across three driver groups: roll-off rental delivery drivers, product distribution drivers (Tucson and Phoenix routes), and internal site-to-site transfer drivers
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers throughout the workday, resolving issues and adjusting assignments as needed
  • Ensure all drivers depart on time with accurate manifests, delivery instructions, and route assignments
  • Plan and optimize driver routes to maximize efficiency and minimize mileage and drive time
  • Actively monitor GPS tracking software throughout the day to ensure drivers are adhering to assigned routes
  • Identify and address inefficiencies, unauthorized detours, or unnecessary stops in real time
  • Monitor GPS and telematics data for safety incidents including speeding, harsh braking, and seatbelt violations
  • Document and report safety events to management and follow up with drivers as appropriate
  • Promote and reinforce a culture of safe driving across the fleet
  • Manage and track DOT compliance requirements for all applicable drivers
  • Monitor driver certifications, medical cards, and license renewals to ensure nothing lapses
  • Maintain accurate and organized driver qualification files and compliance records
  • Stay current on FMCSA regulations and flag any upcoming compliance deadlines to management
  • Track and manage vehicle registrations to ensure all fleet units remain current

  • Assist with fleet recordkeeping as needed
