About The Position

WSP is seeking a Transportation Director/Local Business Line Lead for their Austin, TX office. This role is a key strategic leadership position within the Texas Southwest District, focused on strengthening and expanding the Transportation practice. The company is involved in significant growth and development in West and Central Texas, working with major public agencies and entities such as the Texas Department of Transportation, Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, Capital Metro, Austin Transit Partnership, Austin Bergstrom International Airport, City of Austin, Travis County, and Williamson County. The position also involves collaborating with other WSP business lines like Property and Buildings, Energy, Water, Federal, Advisory Services, and PMCM to deliver value to clients.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in transportation engineering or equivalent experience in the A/E/C industry with a strong focus in transportation
  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas
  • Experience in the design and project management of transportation infrastructure projects (highways, collectors, arterials, local roads, bike and pedestrian shared use paths, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience of leadership, personal accountability, persistent and goal oriented
  • Effective communication with team members and stakeholders to ensure project objectives are met
  • Proven experience in professional communication, including presentations, written reports, and group facilitation
  • Ability to innovate and re-think the conventional approach to client and employee engagement
  • Strong business acumen with an aptitude for improving processes
  • Sound decision-making, strategic and visionary thinking, and creative business development capabilities across a multi-disciplined practice
  • Strongly established relevant client relationships and industry contacts in the local area
  • Commitment to internal and external client service
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies

Responsibilities

  • Optimizes the client and employee experience through regular review and implements process improvements.
  • Focuses on innovation and enhancing health & safety, quality and sustainable standards.
  • Develops local growth, forecast and business development strategy in collaboration with District, Region and National Business Line Leaders.
  • Resolves conflict and other internal/external issues that may arise in the office, amongst WSP’s client base, or on projects.
  • Collaborate with regional, district leaders and other area leaders to strategically drive the business, manage project performance, oversee overhead expenditures, and meet operational financial metrics.
  • Works with the Business Line leader to attract the best industry talent by fostering a work environment that is collaborative, values inclusion and diversity and invites broad, creative thinking – crafting a more attractive place to work, grow and thrive.
  • Emphasizes employee training and development to create a unique work experience.
  • Inspires, motivates and promotes the best of WSP to our clients and communities to ensure strong employee engagement and morale.

  • Brings an expanded view and integrated response to complex challenges by leveraging our full suite of offerings across all end markets.
  • Utilizes our extended reach across regions, districts, offices and the globe to foster new and innovative client delivery.

  • Drives performance of the business and strategically grows our market share to ensure WSP is a preferred provider to our clients.
  • Manages local client coordination and cross-selling efforts in coordination with Region, District, National Business Lines, and Pursuit Management.
  • Leverages our broad technical experience to enhance current and new service offerings.
  • Fosters the development of new and emerging innovations to remain the trusted thought leaders in our industry.
  • Advances the strategic direction of the district and region in the location of responsibility for sustained and continued growth consistent within the context of the strategic plan.
  • Encourages, supports and promotes the technical and professional development of local WSP staff.
