About The Position

ATCS is hiring an intern for its 2027 Summer Internship Program, which runs from May/June through August 2027. The position supports the Transportation Design team in ATCS’s Timonium, Maryland office. The intern will gain hands-on experience contributing to roadway and transportation infrastructure projects while working alongside engineers and other professionals.

The intern will support transportation engineering and design work, develop technical skills, and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a transportation design team. The role may include technical and administrative tasks as needed.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Interest in transportation engineering, roadway design, and transportation infrastructure.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.

Nice To Haves

• Coursework related to transportation, roadway design, or civil engineering design.
• Previous internship or related experience.
• Exposure to MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or other engineering/design software.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers with the planning and design of roadway and transportation projects.
• Assist with preparing design plans, drawings, calculations, and other project deliverables.
• Use engineering and design software to support roadway design and plan development.
• Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing project data.
• Support design tasks related to roadway geometry, grading, drainage, and other transportation improvements.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to complete project tasks.
• Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the day-to-day work of a transportation design team.
• Assist with other technical and administrative tasks as needed.
