About The Position

This position is open to current Colorado residents only. The Colorado Veterans Community Living Center (VCLC) at Fitzsimons is a beautiful 180-bed, skilled nursing facility serving Colorado’s veterans. We strive to honor and respect those living in our community through companionship and person-centered care while providing a comfortable and safe place to live. At Fitzsimons, we provide long-term care and short-term rehab and have a secure memory care neighborhood. We are conveniently located on the medical campus with UC Hospital and the Aurora VA Medical Center. Fitzsimons celebrates a low 14% staff turnover rate and substantial longevity among staff. Provide safe transport of our resident to medical appointments. Provide basic hands-on patient/resident care in a safe, clean, infection-controlled environment by dressing, grooming, hygiene, skin care, positioning, ambulating, transferring, toileting, feeding, transporting, and performing basic assessments (vital signs, blood pressures, etc.) while on medical appointments and/or recreation outings. Chart/document all of the above when necessary related to being outside their home. Assist in the provision of recreational programs that meet the individual needs of our residents. Additionally, as a Health Care Technician, you will: Coordinate daily schedules, perform pre-trip vehicle safety inspections, and safely drive state vehicles for resident medical appointments and recreational outings. Safely transfer and secure residents for transit using mechanical vehicle lifts, wheelchair tie-downs, and proper positioning devices (e.g., transfer/gait belts). Ensure residents are appropriately dressed for travel, prepare necessary care and hygiene supplies, and manage portable oxygen tanks as needed. Schedule medical appointments and procedures, coordinate transportation times with medical centers, and notify families of all arrangements. Assess and address basic resident needs during off-site trips, clearly explain all care/movements prior to contact, and report any condition changes or safety concerns to staff. Maintain strict infection control/universal precautions and perform basic emergency medical assessments (e.g., vitals, blood pressure) if off-site medical issues arise. Facilitate assigned recreational programs, conduct spontaneous 1-on-1 resident visits, and accurately document program attendance and refusals. Actively participate in ongoing staff education programs and complete all required online training assignments. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must hold and maintain an active CNA certification in good standing from the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies, as well as a current BLS Healthcare Provider Card.
High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Must possess a valid, Colorado driver's license.
Must complete and pass a tuberculosis (TB) test
Must be willing to obtain vaccinations, as required by the State and facility
Must demonstrate the ability to bend, squat, maneuver tight spaces, etc., and perform Safety Care interventions proficiently (pre-employment and continuously throughout employment
