About The Position

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is a 100% employee-owned consulting firm with over 2,800 professionals providing engineering, architecture, IT, and related services. JMT's Pittsburgh Construction Management Team is seeking a Transportation Construction Manager for a major PennDOT project in Southwestern Pennsylvania. This multi-season assignment includes roadway reconstruction, new bridge construction, earthwork, drainage upgrades, utility relocation, and other miscellaneous construction.

Requirements

  • Experience in coordinating and supervising project inspection activities.
  • Ability to assign, schedule, and maintain inspection staff.
  • Proficiency in reviewing and maintaining project documentation.
  • Experience in preparing and submitting project inspection reports, work authorizations, work orders, and estimates.
  • Skill in notifying contractors of non-compliance and corrective actions.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and evaluate contractor schedules.
  • Experience in tracking project progress and identifying potential overruns.
  • Competence in completing analysis of field tests.
  • Experience in attending project meetings (pre-bid, pre-construction, management level).
  • Ability to assist clients with change orders and claim defense.
  • Experience in providing construction progress updates to clients.
  • Strong communication and interaction skills with various stakeholders (public, agencies, contractors).
  • Ability to draft project correspondence and facilitate meetings.
  • Skills in resolving construction-related field issues.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance with plans, contract documents, specifications, and standards.
  • Assign, schedule, and maintain subordinate inspection staff throughout all project phases.
  • Review and maintain all pertinent project documentation, ensuring accurate detailing of construction progress, activities, and materials, compliance with environmental permitting conditions, safety policies, and monitoring EEO and DBE progress.
  • Prepare, review, and submit project inspection reports, work authorizations, work orders, and estimates.
  • Notify contractors of non-compliance and required corrective actions.
  • Review, analyze, and evaluate contractor schedules.
  • Track project progress and advise parties of possible overruns and critical project issues.
  • Complete analysis of field tests.
  • Attend pre-bid, pre-construction, and management-level meetings.
  • Assist the client with change orders, claim defense, and provide construction progress updates.
  • Interact with the general public, government agencies, contractors, sub-contractors, and other parties to respond to inquiries.
  • Act on behalf of the client to draft project correspondence, facilitate project meetings, and resolve construction-related field issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
