Requirements

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Meet the PA residency requirement

Responsibilities

  • Inspect various phases of roadway and structure construction to confirm conformance with approved plans and specifications
  • Check the placement and quality of concrete, bituminous products, drainage items, and other construction materials
  • Perform visual compaction checks and observe material testing to ensure proper procedures are followed
  • Record field activities including diary entries, calculations, sketches, and quantity estimates using manual or electronic systems
  • Prepare reports, review results, and track schedule and material quantities throughout the project
  • Assist in addressing field issues while maintaining progress and quality control records
