Requirements

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Meet the PA residency requirement

Responsibilities

  • Inspect phases of construction work and check grades, elevations, and layout with project staff
  • Observe placement of concrete, asphalt, drainage materials, and other supplies to ensure proper use
  • Check soil and aggregate compaction through visual and field methods
  • Complete reports, calculations, estimates, and field notes using electronic and manual tools
  • Review project plans, specifications, and manuals to support inspection activities
  • Check work zone traffic control devices and communicate safety concerns to project personnel
