DESCRIPTION OF WORK This role focuses on inspecting construction activities to ensure that materials and work follow required specifications. You will support successful project completion through careful observation, documentation, and communication. As a Transportation Construction Inspector, you will perform the following duties: Field Inspection: Inspect routine phases of Highway Occupancy Permit construction work such as grades, elevations, stake outs, drainage features, and material placement Material Testing: Test and inspect materials used in highway construction to verify compliance with standards Project Documentation: Maintain sketches, calculations, plan changes, diaries, and reports according to required procedures Quality Verification: Check the placement of concrete, bituminous materials, drainage elements, and other construction materials Team Coordination: Work with project staff, agencies, and the public to support smooth project administration Interested in learning more? Requirements

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Be able to perform essential job functions
