Requirements

  • One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration)
  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work
  • Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics
  • One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Meet the PA residency requirement
  • Be able to perform essential job functions
  • Pass a background investigation

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all phases of highway construction work and verify adherence to plans and specifications
  • Observe placement of cement concrete, bituminous concrete, and drainage materials
  • Provide compaction testing of soils, aggregates, and related sub-surface materials
  • Complete diary entries, calculations, and reports through manual or electronic methods
  • Interact with agencies, legislators, and the public to support project administration
  • Assist with resolving field issues and tracking project progress through sketches and summaries
