About The Position

Join the Department of Transportation as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Construction) and contribute to building and maintaining essential travel routes! Requirements

  • Three years of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or Three years of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or One year as an Engineering Technician (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Two years as a Transportation Technician or Construction Cost Technician 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of construction inspection experience, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Possession of an active non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License or equivalent.
  • Meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Able to perform essential job functions.
  • Submission of criminal history reports (conditional offer of employment).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct inspections of all phases of transportation construction to verify compliance with codes and plans
  • Examine placement of materials such as concrete, drainage components, and other required items
  • Perform compaction testing, as well as assess soil and aggregate conditions
  • Complete calculations, estimates, and reports to support project tracking and progress
  • Communicate with staff, agencies, and the public to support project administration
  • Assist with resolving issues that arise during construction activities
