About The Position

The Transportation Assistant is responsible for assisting students during transport to and from school and/or special activities, and ensuring the safety and sanitation of assigned vehicles. This role involves managing potential emergency situations, instructing students on rules, monitoring student behavior, and assisting students with special needs. The position also requires preparing documentation and reporting observations and incidents related to student conduct and well-being.

Requirements

• Pass a criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.

Responsibilities

• Assesses potential emergency situations on the bus/van and within loading and unloading zones.
• Assists students with safe loading and unloading.
• Instructs students regarding rules and regulations.
• Monitors students for issues such as unruly, disruptive behavior, or abusive language.
• Monitors students with special needs until released to a teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc.
• Prepares documentation, such as incident reports, student behavior code, and passenger misconduct reports.
• Reports observations and/or incidents, including discipline, accidents, physical or mental changes pertaining to students, and inappropriate social behavior.
• Secures students and/or equipment with restraints and tie-downs, such as wheelchairs and seat belts, and operates the lift as needed.
• Assists other personnel as needed.
