About The Position

The Instructional Assistant provides instructional support to individual or small groups of students. This role involves assisting students in completing classroom assignments, homework, and projects across various subject areas, and providing socio-emotional support. The assistant will confer with other instructional staff to adapt lesson plans and materials, collect and maintain student progress records, and communicate with staff and administrators regarding student progress. The position also requires developing positive relationships within the school community and performing other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of college (48 units), or A.A. degree (or higher)
  • Employment eligibility that may include fingerprints, tuberculosis and/or other employment clearance
  • Knowledge of guiding principles and practices related to students with special needs
  • Knowledge of subjects taught in schools, including basic and advanced arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language, history, science, and reading
  • Knowledge of engaging instructional methods and techniques
  • Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary
  • Knowledge of graduation and college admission requirements
  • Knowledge of acceptable school and classroom policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of behavior management and deescalation techniques
  • Knowledge of operation of standard office and classroom equipment
  • Knowledge of interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and professionalism
  • Knowledge of basic record-keeping and report preparing techniques
  • Ability to assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment
  • Ability to reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students
  • Ability to manage a range of student behaviors
  • Ability to assist in the preparation of instructional materials
  • Ability to perform routine clerical duties
  • Ability to understand and relate to students with special needs
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding, patient, and receptive attitude towards students
  • Ability to collect data, monitor, and observe and report student behavior and progress

Nice To Haves

  • One-year of successful work experience in special education preferred
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish highly desired
