About The Position

The Transportation Assistant Manager will assist the Campus Transportation Manager to coordinate and oversee all transportation needs at his/her campus. The Assistant Manager will work towards learning, adapting and surpassing the goals set forth by the department and includes but not limited to the following: coordinating school bus routes, scheduling and learn daily operations of buses and bus drivers. Ensure to follow all federal, state, and local regulations and applicable laws, train and develop the usage of software for mapping, routing, and services that ensure the fleet is running efficiently.

Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements.
  • Completed bus driver safety training course.
  • Must be over 18 years old.
  • Pass alcohol and drug tests.
  • Pass DOT Physical Examination.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee all transportation needs at the campus.
  • Coordinate school bus routes and schedule daily operations of buses and bus drivers.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and applicable laws.
  • Train and develop the usage of software for mapping, routing, and services to ensure fleet efficiency.
  • Ensure the safe transportation of all students with a goal of zero preventable incidents/accidents.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office and monitor two-way radios.
  • Receive and respond to drivers' accidents, conduct internal investigations, and gather information.
  • Receive and respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
  • Maintain an efficient operation with a Cost Per Mile less than $3.70.
  • Develop a schedule for all drivers that ensures they are fulfilling their primary role while on the clock.
  • Continuously audit team's participation to ensure systems are not being abused.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
  • Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed.
  • Create a work environment where team members thrive with a minimum of 85% transportation staff retention.
  • Screen employees to ensure only qualified, quality, and dedicated individuals are hired.
  • Ensure employees understand expectations and work conditions before being hired.
  • Maintain fleet in safe operating condition while achieving a 7% savings on maintenance cost over the previous year.
  • Ensure that maintenance supplies are not over-purchased.
  • Ensure PMs are done in a systematic order.
  • Utilize Transfinder to create/update routes at the campus level, ensuring all routes are up-to-date and do not exceed rated capacity by more than 10%.
  • Keep driver records up-to-date in Route Finder.
  • Keep student records up-to-date in Route Finder.
  • Utilize Synovia to analyze reports on Planned vs. Actual Routes.
  • Know when each bus should be at each stop and see when they arrived.
  • Generate and analyze reports of the fleet’s overall activity, drilling down into stop-by-stop data.
  • Communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues regarding transportation services, student behavioral problems, and special accommodations.
