About The Position

This position will include both Transportation Coordinator and Family Service Coordinator duties. The position is a full year, full-time, 215 day position. Competitive wages based on experience and full benefits. Office located at the in Kingsford, Michigan. Services may be provided in Dickinson and Iron Counties.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an Associate Degree in Health and Human Services, Early Childhood Education or related fields or equivalent thereof with experience related to coordination of services to children and families
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a preschool or child care center preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation systems.
  • Knowledge of Transportation Rules and Requirements.
  • Knowledge and interest in child and family social interests and fulfillment of family needs.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with parents, families and staff, as well as various professional and community groups.
  • Ability to work effectively with parents and families in forming necessary connections and relationships with community resources and the community-at-large.
  • Knowledge and experience regarding Head Start Performance Standards and State of Michigan Licensing Standards preferred.
  • Experience in effective training strategies and group facilitation preferred.
  • Driving may be necessary for this position which would require a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Coordination of transportation services across the Early Childhood Education and Special Education departments and the third party transportation Contractor.
  • Establish and maintain transportation routes in conjunction with the Contractor.
  • Ensure safety of all children and bus passengers.
  • Work with families and staff and utilizing community resources.
  • Promotes an atmosphere for a healthy life by encouraging a state of physical and emotional wellness for children, families and staff.
  • Assist families with meeting educational, personal, social, occupation and child & family related issues.
  • Promote good public relations by neat appearance of self and proper attitude.
  • Comply with all applicable policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Participate in meaningful parent training, distribution of parent surveys, parent education, involvement, development and family support activities.
  • Responsible for the coordination and completion with the Health Services and Family & Community Partnerships Coordinators the intake process and interviews with families.
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of the following health service areas of medical, vision and hearing; dental and health and safety.
  • Enter child and family information into the Child Plus data system on a regular basis.
  • Assist with coordination of the Health and the Family & Community Partnerships Service Areas with all other service area coordinators and the administration.
  • Assist center base and home base staff in promoting community involvement between families and specific agencies, groups, businesses and services in the community-at-large according to identified goals and objectives in Family Partnership Agreements.
  • Promote involvement from the community-at-large with the Early Childhood Department and its programs.
  • Coordinate with center staff and the Family and Community Partnerships Coordinator monthly center meetings and activities.
  • Maintain knowledge of Policy Council formation, orientation and meeting & activity structures throughout the Program Year, including monthly meetings, financial reports and agenda, minutes and parent communication.
  • Attend Policy Council Meetings as deemed necessary by the Administration.
  • Relate correspondence and information from ACYF to staff and families.
  • Assist and encourage parents in becoming members of community, regional and state groups, committees and organizations.
  • Share the responsibility for staff development as it relates to health and the formation of partnerships with parents, families and community.
  • Participates in all staff meetings and ongoing training to further develop necessary skills/knowledge.
  • Facilitate with office staff ongoing training for parents relating to their roles and responsibilities in each component.
  • Maintain child and family records/information in a safe and confidential manner.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, both formal and informal, for enhancement of individual abilities, skills and knowledge required for maximum job performance.
  • Assist in the recruitment of children, attend parent meetings and conduct home visits as required.
  • Must have regular and reliable attendance.
  • Serve as a positive role model for DIISD constituents demonstrating how to be a responsible citizen and productive member of society.
  • Adhere to the DIISD Code of Ethics.
  • Ability to carry out other associated duties as assigned by administration.
