About The Position

WSP is seeking a Transportation Analyst to support traffic operation services for the Transportation Management Center (PA-TMC) for the Port Authority New York-New Jersey (PANYNJ). This role operates within a 24/7 staffed environment and requires monitoring, evaluating, and disseminating information regarding traffic conditions and incidents. The analyst will coordinate with various transportation agencies and law enforcement during normal operations, special events, emergencies, and construction projects. Key responsibilities include monitoring video displays, operating intelligent transportation systems equipment, documenting traffic flow, generating reports, and ensuring accurate information transfer between shifts.

Requirements

  • Background in traffic operations, including prior traffic operations/transportation related field experience.
  • 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English.

Nice To Haves

  • Desirable experience should include past coordination with operations staff, technicians, engineers, and/or law enforcement on work assignments.
  • Candidates must take the following courses within 180 days of hiring: Certified International Municipal Signal Association (IMSA) Transportation Center System Specialist Level II and Incident Command System (ICS 100 and ICS 200).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor, evaluate, and disseminate information concerning emergency and non-emergency traffic conditions and incidents.
  • Provide information to supervisors to assess congestion levels and incident condition severity.
  • Assist with coordination with other transportation agencies (e.g., NYCDOT, NYSDOT, MTA, NJDOT, NJ Turnpike, NJ Transit, NJ State Police, TRANSCOM, State and local police, fire/rescue, and media) via phone, email, and/or two-way radio monitoring.
  • Actively monitor video displays to maintain situational awareness.
  • Monitor planned special events.
  • Operate and monitor intelligent transportation systems equipment such as closed circuit television (CCTV) and vehicle detection systems (VDS).
  • Monitor real-time traffic data, document traffic flow conditions, and communicate this to PA Staff and other transportation agencies as needed.
  • Generate reports including entries into Transcom’s T-Rex platform, Everbridge/PA Alerts, U.O.C. Notifications, Daily Monitoring Reports, Incident Tracking Forms, and real-time entries into 3rd party mapping apps (Waze, TomTom).
  • Ensure transfer of information to subsequent shift personnel is complete and accurate.
  • Notify PA personnel according to established procedures.
  • Check the operation of equipment at the start of a shift, noting any malfunctions and requesting repairs.
  • Notify appropriate Port Authority department of any computer system related problems.
  • Monitor and assist co-workers to ensure accuracy and timeliness of information.
  • Properly operate and utilize equipment required to perform assigned duties.
