About The Position

The Transportation Analyst I evaluates and designs transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency. This role involves assisting in research and analysis of freight costs and classifications, delivery methods, and delivery schedules to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. The analyst will maintain databases of freight costs, transportation networks, and carrier information, and assist in negotiating transportation rates. They will also analyze transportation costs, equipment availability, and service levels, and conduct cost studies to evaluate transportation alternatives and identify cost-saving opportunities. Support for monthly carrier performance and transportation reports, month-end freight reporting and reconciliation, and reviewing/auditing freight invoices for accuracy are key duties. The role requires utilizing Microsoft Excel for data organization, analysis, and reporting. Additionally, the analyst may assist in coordinating foreign merchandise production, quota, customs documentation, and transportation, and work with customs officials to resolve delays and obtain release of incoming freight.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for moving goods by air, rail, sea, or road, including the relative costs and benefits of each mode.
  • Basic understanding of transportation and logistics concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to create spreadsheets, use formulas, sort and analyze data, and generate reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to learn transportation reporting, freight auditing, and carrier performance measurement processes.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Transportation Management Systems (TMS) is preferred.
  • Experience with PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and basic data analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities
