About The Position

Transports patients, equipment, and supplies to and from nursing service units and other designated hospital areas. Assists professional nurses and licensed practical nurses by performing patient-, unit-, and environment-related duties. The role involves safe, efficient, and courteous patient transport; responding to requests from nursing units; and maintaining transport vehicles and equipment. Provides care appropriate to the individualized, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of the patients served.

Requirements

BLS certification is required or must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
Ability to remain on one's feet for most of the work time.
Ability to push beds, stretchers, and wheelchairs, and to lift and pull.

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent program.

Responsibilities

Transport patients by wheelchair or stretcher to assigned hospital areas and make daily rounds.
Prepare patients for transport according to nursing service procedures and transport them safely, efficiently, and courteously.
Record transport departure time, destination, and return time using the TeleTracking system.
Transport deceased patients to the morgue with care and respect.
Maintain, inspect, and clean vehicles according to nursing service procedures and supervisor direction.
Make rounds to nursing units and serve as a messenger when requested.
Return vehicles, oxygen tanks, and oxygen equipment after patient transports.
Perform miscellaneous service duties.
Respond promptly to call lights, communicate needs to appropriate personnel, and report unusual conditions.
Assist patients out of bed as requested and demonstrate the ability to use lifting devices.
Respond to Code Green with the appropriate vehicle.
Provide competent care suited to the individualized, developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients served.
Perform other duties as requested.
