Performs basic design and/or immediate work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details. Essential Duties Transport Engineer Tech I: • Performs basic design work. • Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments. • Prepares field notes. • Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps. • Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans. • Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System. • Works on reproduction of plans. Essential Duties Transport Engineer Tech II - Same responsibilities above plus the following: • Assists in on-the-job training of less experienced technicians. • Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features. • Performs intermediate design work. • Prepares environmental documents. • Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications. • Schedules, coordinates and prepares documents for public hearings. • Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.
