About The Position

Hoag Health, the top-ranked health system in Orange County, California, is seeking a collaborative, patient-centered, and mission-driven Transplant Nephrologist to join our growing Kidney Transplant and Nephrology Program based in Newport Beach, California. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering exceptional kidney care while supporting the development and growth of Hoag's comprehensive kidney transplant program. The Transplant Nephrologist will provide high-quality inpatient and outpatient nephrology care for patients with acute and chronic kidney disease while partnering closely with transplant surgery, primary care, hospital medicine, and other specialists to ensure seamless care across the continuum. The physician will participate in the evaluation and management of transplant candidates and recipients, provide consultative nephrology services, and contribute to quality improvement and program development initiatives. In this position, you will join an innovative and collaborative physician team committed to clinical excellence, multidisciplinary care, and improving outcomes for patients with complex kidney disease.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from a fully accredited medical or osteopathic school of medicine
  • Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited residency in Internal Medicine
  • Successful completion of an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Nephrology
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Nephrology
  • Demonstrated expertise in the diagnosis and management of acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, glomerular diseases, and end-stage kidney disease
  • Experience caring for hospitalized nephrology patients, kidney transplant candidates, transplant recipients, outpatient nephrology patients, and dialysis populations
  • Active, unobstructed California medical license, or the ability to obtain one
  • Full prescriptive authority and an active DEA in California, or the ability to obtain one
  • Ability to successfully complete Hoag Health’s credentialing process

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient nephrology care for patients with acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, electrolyte disorders, glomerular disease, and end-stage kidney disease.
  • Participating in hospital consultations, outpatient transplant nephrology clinics, dialysis patient management, and collaborative care of kidney transplant candidates and recipients.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary conferences, development of evidence-based care pathways, and collaboration with transplant nephrology, transplant surgery, hepatology, primary care, hospital medicine, and other specialists to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Providing consultative nephrology services.
  • Contributing to quality improvement and program development initiatives.
  • Participating in multidisciplinary transplant selection conferences, nephrology case conferences, quality meetings, educational conferences, and departmental meetings.
