As our Transplant Financial Counselor, you will be a vital part of the transplant team, responsible for coordinating financial resources for Transplant and/or VAD patients. Your role is crucial in ensuring financial readiness and continuity of care for patients and their families. You will work daily with patients and families to coordinate financial resources from the initial evaluation through post-transplant care. This includes answering insurance questions, providing multidisciplinary recommendations on financial candidacy, and adhering to departmental policies for charges and Medicare Cost Report. You will establish financial expectations for patients/guarantors, ensuring accurate information for efficient account processing. Success in this role requires strong financial counseling expertise, exceptional communication skills, and meticulous attention to detail regarding insurance and cost reporting. A deep understanding of transplant financial requirements, collaborative teamwork, and a compassionate approach to patient support are essential.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate General Studies and Four years of related experience in Transplantation, upon hire
  • High School GED General Studies and Four years of related experience in Transplantation, upon hire

Responsibilities

  • Work with patients/families to coordinate financial resources from evaluation through post-transplant care.
  • Answer insurance questions.
  • Provide multidisciplinary recommendations on financial candidacy.
  • Adhere to departmental policies for charges and Medicare Cost Report.
  • Establish financial expectations for patients/guarantors, ensuring accurate information for efficient account processing.
  • Obtain detailed patient insurance benefit information; medical management and transplant.
  • Discuss benefits and other financial issues with patients and/or family members during initial evaluation.
  • Advise patients on insurance and billing issues and options.
  • Serve as a resource for patients and their family members on financial matters.
  • Coordinate all necessary payer authorizations including documentation of financial information appropriately in the EMR.
  • Consistently monitor and update information regarding insurance data, physicians, authorizations and managed care contracting.
  • Assist patients and their families with questions concerning insurance and other financial issues.
