The Donor Allocation Transplant Coordinator takes organ call for the transplant programs. Call duties include reviewing deceased-donor organ offers for transplant candidates, triaging patient calls, and completing other duties assigned by transplant leadership. The coordinator facilitates acceptance or refusal of donor organs and coordinates organ recovery with transplant surgeons, the Organ and Tissue Donation Team, the Histocompatibility Lab, inpatient units, and the operating room. The role also requires effective and sensitive communication with patients receiving organs and substantial time managing complex logistical support for organ recovery and placement. The coordinator provides 24/7 coverage on a rotating schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays. This is a home-based position that may require on-campus meetings and training. The coordinator supports training and procedures for call support and after-hours organ allocation, develops education and training modules for on-site call nurses, and provides coaching to help call nurses become proficient.
