Transmissions Design Engineer I (Onsite)

RTX•East Hartford, CT
•$57,200 - $108,800•Onsite

About The Position

The Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Transmissions Team is seeking an engineer to perform transmission design and analysis for commercial and military engine programs. The role supports hardware including fan drive gear systems, accessory gearboxes, compartment bevel gears, lube pumps, and supplier-designed components. The position is onsite at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Connecticut, and selected candidates will be enrolled in the Engineering Development Program (EDP). The first 2.5 years of the program include three rotations, typically in distinct technical disciplines within the hiring department. The engineer will contribute throughout the product life cycle, from preliminary and detailed design through development testing, validation, certification, delivery, and post-production and service support. Work includes gear-train design and analysis, gearbox health monitoring during rig validation testing, test-data reduction, field investigations, root-cause analysis, and participation in multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will document and present design and analysis conclusions to transmissions leadership and contribute to improving technology, design processes, and engineering standard work. The position requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or a related STEM field by the start date, a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA, and experience with presentations, independent assignments, multidisciplinary teamwork, and CAD modeling software or programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or Fortran. U.S. citizenship is required because the position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government security clearance; an active and existing L Clearance is required after day one.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major by the start date.
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Experience delivering presentations, independently completing assigned responsibilities, and contributing to successful outcomes in multidisciplinary team environments.
  • Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) modeling software or programming languages such as Matlab, Python, or Fortran.
  • U.S. citizenship, because eligibility for a security clearance is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government-issued security clearance; an active and existing L Clearance is required after day one.
