Transmission-Powertrain Rebuild Technician/Mechanic
About The Position
The Transmission-Powertrain Rebuild Technician/Mechanic is responsible for completing the disassembly and assembly of Caterpillar transmissions, torque converters, final drives, wheel stations, differentials, and other powertrain components for repair and/or complete overhaul in a manner that reflects the company’s vision of working as “One Professional Team." This is a Class B- Journey Technician position with a pay range of $29.11 - $50.00 per hour, dependent upon education and experience. Additional opportunities exist to learn and rebuild Caterpillar Engines, fuel systems, cylinder heads, hydraulic cylinders, pumps, motors, hydraulic hammers, compactors, and other hydraulic attachments according to manufacturer specifications. The role also involves providing direction, training, mentoring, and guidance to assigned service technicians.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Post-secondary education degree or certificate in diesel or automotive Or a combination of education and Two to Five years in heavy equipment rebuild and repair of transmissions and powertrain components.
- Basic ability to search for and enter data into a computer.
- Ability to type service reports.
- Uses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirements in preparing, inspecting, and rebuilding of components.

Responsibilities
- Completes disassembly and assembly of Caterpillar transmissions, torque converters, final drives, wheel stations, differentials, and other powertrain components for repair and/or complete overhaul.
- Determines most cost-effective repair using Caterpillar reusability guidelines.
- Inspection of parts for reuse and salvage, ability to develop complete and accurate repair quotes.
- Maintains clean organized work area to meet dealership contamination control requirements.
- Provides direction, training, mentoring and guidance to assigned service technicians.
