About The Position

Provides leadership and direction for the execution of transmission planning activities and studies necessary to support reliable and compliant operation of the transmission system. Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of transmission planning engineers and consultants, ensuring timely completion of planning assessments, interconnection studies, transmission service evaluations, and related planning deliverables. Leads the implementation of planning strategies, oversees study execution, manages workload prioritization, and ensures technical quality and consistency across planning activities. Responsible for translating strategic planning objectives into executable work programs and delivering planning results that support system reliability, customer needs, regulatory compliance, and capital investment decisions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required
Minimum 8–10 years of experience in transmission planning, power systems analysis, transmission engineering, or related discipline.
Minimum 3–5 years of demonstrated supervisory, project leadership, or team leadership experience.
Strong knowledge of transmission planning methodologies, power system modeling, planning software, and applicable reliability standards.
Working knowledge of FERC, NERC, transmission tariffs, and regional planning practices.
Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Professional Engineer (PE) registration.

Responsibilities

Lead execution of transmission planning studies, assessments, and analyses required to support reliability, transmission service, interconnection, and long-term planning objectives.
Coordinate with model development and other contributing organizations for study planning and preparation.
Manage development and maintenance of transmission planning study assumptions, and planning databases.
Ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality of planning study results and recommendations.
Support identification, evaluation, and mitigation of system constraints and reliability concerns.
Supervise transmission planning engineers, analysts, interns, and consultants.
Manage workload assignments, project prioritization, performance expectations, and employee development.
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to planning staff.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Develop and maintain study schedules, resource plans, and workload forecasts.
Monitor progress against planning commitments and regulatory deadlines.
Identify and resolve execution risks that could impact planning deliverables.
Manage consultant support and ensure effective utilization of internal and external resources.
Coordinate planning activities with resource planning, distribution planning, operations, asset management, engineering, protection, interconnection, and project development organizations.
Ensure planning assumptions and study results are effectively communicated to stakeholders.
Support development of transmission project recommendations and business cases.
Ensure planning activities comply with applicable reliability standards, planning criteria, tariff requirements, and regulatory obligations.
Support preparation of technical reports, planning documents, and regulatory filings.
Participate in audits, data requests, and compliance activities as required.
Identify opportunities to improve study processes, tools, methodologies, and organizational effectiveness.
Implement process improvements that enhance efficiency, consistency, and planning quality.
Support the integration of planning processes across reliability planning, interconnection studies, transmission service studies, and long-range planning activities.
