About The Position

We are seeking a Technical Leader to join our Transmission Operations and Planning team, focused on bridging advanced research and real-world grid operations. This role translates transmission system analysis, tools, and methodologies into practical, near real-time applications that enhance reliability, situational awareness, and operational decision-making. The role leads development and deployment of capabilities including online Dynamic Security Assessment (DSA), state estimation enhancements, and real-time contingency analysis tools, with integration into EMS/SCADA environments. The position collaborates with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and internal teams to deliver scalable solutions that improve grid resilience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or equivalent.
  • 8+ years of experience in power systems with focus on transmission operations, planning, or analysis.
  • Experience with EMS/SCADA systems and DSA tools (e.g., VSAT, TSAT, PSAT).
  • Strong understanding of power system operations, stability analysis, and contingency evaluation.
  • Familiarity with NERC reliability standards and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with ISO/RTOs, utilities, or grid operators.
  • Experience implementing real-time applications in EMS environments.
  • Programming or scripting experience (e.g., Python, MATLAB, SQL).
  • Experience with tool or product deployment lifecycle from concept to production.
  • Knowledge of network model management and data integration.
  • Professional Engineering (P.E. or P.Eng.) designation or eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and deployment of near-real-time transmission system applications, including online DSA, contingency analysis, and state estimation tools.
  • Drive integration of analytical tools into EMS/SCADA environments and operational workflows.
  • Translate analytical results into actionable insights for control room operators and planners.
  • Bridge R&D and operations by converting advanced methodologies into production-ready solutions.
  • Lead pilot projects and transition prototypes into scalable operational tools.
  • Perform steady-state and dynamic studies including voltage and transient stability and contingency analysis.
  • Support development and application of security operating limits and real-time assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC standards and regional reliability criteria.
  • Engage utilities, ISOs/RTOs, and stakeholders to deliver practical operational solutions.
  • Facilitate coordination with operations, planning, IT, and vendors for successful deployment.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to organizational capability development.
