About The Position

Amgen is seeking an undergraduate intern to support research advancing human-relevant in vitro assays for drug safety testing. The work focuses on evaluating approaches that may better capture human biology than established 2D cell culture assays, helping identify potential safety concerns early and inform medicine-development decisions. The intern will conduct laboratory studies using human cell culture models, assess cellular responses relevant to drug safety, organize and analyze experimental data, compare results across assay conditions and cell types, and share findings with the research team. The position requires following laboratory procedures and safety practices. The internship is for Summer 2027. Interns must be located in the United States throughout the program and available to work full-time. Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the program's duration; sponsorship for future full-time roles is not guaranteed.

Requirements

  • Expected to have completed one year of study at an accredited college or university before the internship begins.
  • Expected to continue enrollment at an accredited college or university after the internship program.
  • Must be located in the United States for the duration of the internship.
  • Must be available to work a full-time schedule.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree program at an accredited college or university.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0 GPA or equivalent.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. for the duration of the program.

  • Prior cell culture or molecular biology experience; helpful but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and clear communication skills.
  • Experience organizing or analyzing data.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory studies using human cell culture models.
  • Assist with experiments that assess cellular responses relevant to drug safety.
  • Record, organize, and analyze experimental data.
  • Compare findings across assay conditions and cell types to evaluate assay performance.
  • Present results and observations to the research team.
  • Follow laboratory procedures and safety practices.
