About The Position

This position involves training participants to perform a variety of daily living and pre-vocational skills, and documenting their progress. The role contributes to the Goodwill mission by presenting a positive image and maximizing opportunities for persons with disabilities and other barriers to become more independent, working within prescribed routines. The Transitions Technician will train and oversee participants in activities designed to enhance their daily living and pre-vocational skills, using a curriculum and resource materials. Teaching methods include activities such as cooking, outings, crafts, money management, menu planning, production work, social skills, and music. The role requires transporting participants to and from the program and outings, and accompanying groups on outings to teach skills in community settings. Maintaining appropriate participant ratios and providing supervision to ensure safety and well-being are crucial. The position involves creating periodic progress and activity charts for each participant, making daily assessments based on specific goals, and developing written summaries of ratings and documented activities for participant case files. Planning activities and themes, requesting necessary materials or services, and performing departmental administrative assignments or special projects are also part of the role. Additionally, the technician will participate in training to gain knowledge of data systems used for documenting participant activities, including APD iconnect, Client Track, and the internal ADT NET system. Other duties include demonstrating commitment to the Goodwill mission, performing duties to maintain workflow and meet schedules, maintaining a safe work area, and participating in meetings and task force groups.

Requirements

  • One (1) year working directly with individuals with disabilities or relevant work experience required
  • Must be able to take directions and work with small groups
  • Valid Florida driver’s license with acceptable driving record for insurability under company insurance and ability to travel to outlying locations.

Responsibilities

  • Train and oversee participants in a wide variety of activities designed to enhance their ability to perform daily living and pre-vocational skills, working from a curriculum and resource materials.
  • Teach using activities which include cooking, outings, crafts, money management, menu planning, production work, social skills and music.
  • Work from resource materials and curriculum provided by management.
  • Transport program participants to and from program and outings.
  • Accompany groups of participants on outings to teach skills used outside the home environment.
  • Maintain ratio and provide supervision to participants to ensure their safety and well-being while at ADT facility and on community outings.
  • Provide periodic progress and activity charts for each participant making daily assessments based on specific participant goals.
  • Develop a written summary of ratings and document activities and progress to participant case files as required.
  • Plan activities and themes independently or with others and submit recommended activity projects for authorization.
  • Request materials or services required to enable the activity.
  • Perform any range of departmental administrative assignments or special projects as requested.
  • Participate in training and gain knowledge on the data systems used to document participant activities; APD iconnect, Client Track and internal ADT NET system.
  • Demonstrate by words and actions a commitment to the Goodwill mission to help people with disabilities and other barriers to become self-sufficient, working members of the community.
  • Perform or assist with any duties or operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules, keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and task force groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, and policies.
