About The Position

Bright Star Schools is seeking a dedicated Transitional Kindergarten Teacher for Valor Academy Elementary School. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the School Principal. Bright Star Schools is a non-profit organization with nine public charter schools in Los Angeles, committed to providing holistic support for students to achieve academic excellence and grow their unique talents. We foster a culture of learning and growth for educators, offering small class sizes, comprehensive support, and extensive professional development opportunities, including an instructional coaching program and a no-cost induction program for new teachers with preliminary credentials.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Multiple Subject CA Credential (Clear or Preliminary credentials only)
  • Possession of either an English Learner Authorization (EL Authorization), Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; or Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC) required.
  • Pursuant to EC Section 48000(g)(4), credentialed teachers first assigned to teach in a transitional kindergarten (TK) classroom after July 1, 2015 must have at least 24 units in early childhood education (ECE) or child development (CD), or both; or comparable professional experience; or a CD Teacher Permit, or an ECE specialist credential.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of urban teaching experience preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish or Korean desirable, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with school leaders to improve Bright Star programs.
  • Actively participate in professional development sessions and communicate professionally with all stakeholders.
  • Adhere to Bright Star’s professional attire guidelines.
  • Supervise bathroom breaks and uphold attendance procedures.
  • Participate in school-wide culture events.
  • Implement and execute adopted curriculum maps, guidelines, and instructional best practices.
  • Create and submit weekly lesson plans/unit plans/overviews.
  • Use California Common Core standards and/or California State standards to plan rigorous lessons.
  • Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners.
  • Employ strategies to understand students and prioritize culturally responsive teaching.
  • Actively engage in instructional coaching, including student learning analysis, lesson preparation, and observation debriefs.
  • Implement feedback from coaching sessions and administrators to refine lesson planning and execution.
  • Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment.
  • Implement an aligned instructional program to support student goals.
  • Support instruction with school-wide supplemental programs.
  • Maintain gradebooks and meet grading reporting deadlines.
  • Maintain strong family engagement through parent conferences and regular updates.
  • Collaborate with the Inclusive Education (Special Education) Team.
  • Use planning periods for student instructional needs.
  • Tutor students in need of remediation.
  • Perform other adjunct duties as needed.
