About The Position

Bright Star Schools is a free, publicly funded and open enrollment non-profit organization with nine public charters in urban Los Angeles. The Elementary School Teacher position involves implementing and executing adopted curriculum, creating rigorous lesson plans, differentiating instruction for diverse learners, and maintaining a positive classroom environment. The role also includes collaborating with the Inclusive Education Team, tutoring students, and maintaining strong family engagement through conferences and regular updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Multiple Subject CA Credential
  • Possession of either an English Learner Authorization (EL Authorization), Bilingual, Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (BCLAD) certificate; Cross-Cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) certificate; or Bilingual Certificate of Competence (BCC) required.

  • Uphold attendance procedures each period using school information system, Aeries
  • Participates in school-wide culture events (i.e. Culture days, Songfest, Assemblies, and Field Day)
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Implement and execute the adopted Bright Star curriculum maps and guidelines, as well as instructional best practices
  • Create and submit weekly lesson plans/unit plans/overviews to administrator/coach
  • Use California Common Core standards and/or California State standards, where applicable, to plan rigorous lessons
  • Differentiate lesson plans for a variety of learners (kinesthetic, English Language Learners, and/or students with IEPs, students that are exceeding proficiency, etc.)
  • Employ strategies to get to know and understand students, as well as prioritizing and executing culturally responsive teaching
  • Actively engage in instructional coaching, including student learning analysis, lesson preparation, and observation debriefs with your matched coach.
  • Implement feedback from coaching sessions and administrators to continuously refine lesson planning and execution.
  • Establish and maintain positive classroom environment
  • Implement an aligned instructional program to support students in meeting grade level, school, and district goals
  • Support instruction with school-wide supplemental programs
  • Maintain gradebooks and meet grading reporting deadlines
  • Maintain strong family engagement by conducting parent conferences and providing regular updates on student academics and behavior.
  • Collaborate with Inclusive Education (Special Education) Team
  • Use planning periods for the advancement of students’ instructional needs
  • Tutor students in need of remediation
  • Perform other adjunct duties as needed
