About The Position

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is seeking a Transitional Housing Worker for the Patterson House Program. Patterson House offers on-site residential support and case management to older adults with mental illness who have experienced long-term homelessness. CMHA is a leading community mental health organization in Canada, with a strong national presence and millions of people relying on its grassroots support. CMHA Toronto, established in 1953, serves over 10,000 clients annually across 31 programs and 13 locations, delivered by a passionate and diverse team. This role involves providing high-quality mental health and addictions services, advocating for a better mental health system, and offering education and support to clients in Toronto.

Requirements

  • Minimum college diploma in Social Work/Social Sciences, Diploma/Certificate in Recreation Therapy, or Diploma/Certificate in Life Skills; or a combination of educational and related work/life experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with adults with complex mental health and addictions issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Concurrent Disorders and the Criminal Justice System as it relates to mental health.
  • Skills in Mental Health Assessment and Crisis Intervention.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of recovery principles as they relate to individuals with mental illness.
  • Experience working with diverse communities.
  • Ability to demonstrate a non-homophobic, anti-oppression, and anti-racism approach.
  • Adherence to COVID-19 policy and provide proof of vaccination.

  • Community, homelessness, and residential experience are considered an asset.
  • Personal experience with mental health issues, either through self or a loved one, is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site direct service provision and support clients based on their goals.
  • Orient clients to the programs and services.
  • Provide crisis prevention and interventions as needed.
  • Perform residential duties and maintain a safe, clean, and secure environment.
  • Maintain trusting, respectful, and collaborative working relationships with clients, colleagues, service providers, and other community supports.
  • Work closely with the team in supporting clients and provide crisis intervention.
