About The Position

The Transitional Deacon is an ordained minister of the Catholic Church who serves the parish community while preparing for ordination to the priesthood. The deacon assists in liturgical celebrations, proclaims the Gospel, provides pastoral care, and serves those in need, working closely with the pastor, clergy, parish staff, and faithful.

Requirements

  • Ordained as a Transitional Deacon in the Catholic Church.
  • Completion of required seminary formation and theological studies.
  • In good standing with the Catholic Church and the diocese.
  • Strong commitment to prayer, service, celibacy, and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Strong communication, preaching, and pastoral-care skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing formation, mentoring, and spiritual direction.

Responsibilities

  • Proclaim the Gospel and preach homilies at Mass.
  • Assist the priest at the altar during Mass and other liturgical celebrations.
  • Administer Baptisms and assist with marriage and funeral rites as permitted by the Church.
  • Lead communal prayer, the Liturgy of the Hours, and Eucharistic Adoration.
  • Visit and provide pastoral support to the sick, homebound, hospitalized, and elderly.
  • Participate in faith formation, catechesis, evangelization, and parish ministries.
  • Serve the poor, marginalized, and those in need through works of charity.
  • Collaborate with clergy, parish staff, volunteers, and parishioners.
  • Continue spiritual, academic, and pastoral formation in preparation for priestly ministry.
