About The Position

The City of Jefferson is accepting applications for a part-time Transit Worker. This position performs responsible semi-skilled work in the general care of transit buses and other equipment and facilities; does related work as required.

Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
• General knowledge of the operation and routine cleaning requirements of transit passenger buses.
• General knowledge of traffic laws and regulations governing passenger bus operations on public streets.
• General knowledge of routine maintenance and repair work and of the use of common hand tools.
• Skill in the safe operation of passenger buses and the automated wash facility.
• Ability to perform manual labor.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must possess a valid drivers' license.
• Ability to obtain a class B CDL within 6 months of hire.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in light maintenance, care and operation of large automotive equipment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Washes buses' exterior using an automated wash facility and steam cleaners.
• Cleans buses' interiors.
• Fuels and checks fluid level of transit vehicles.
• Delivers replacement vehicles to operators in route.
• Maintains shop spaces and grounds.
• Performs related tasks as required.
