The Transit Stop Service Technician is responsible for monitoring all transit stops, stations, and employee/passenger amenities. This role requires considerable discretion and independent judgment in reacting to day-to-day operations, maintaining the overall cleanliness, safety, and function of stated locations. The overall functions of this role are to ensure that safety, appearance, cleanliness, and functionality are in optimal condition and that GRTC standards are met.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Virginia Driver’s License required
  • Experience in cleaning and operating basic repair equipment and tablet required
  • Must be able to use all power and hand tools required by the work involved
  • Must be able to operate power steam cleaning equipment
  • Must be able to operate vehicles (trucks) used in this work, including the ability to drive a truck pulling an equipment trailer
  • Must be able to read maps, understand, and follow geographical directions to locations designated for repair and cleaning
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions, schedules, procedures, and directions
  • Must be able to read construction drawings to make bus stop installations
  • Must be able to apply knowledge of construction practices to actual repair, installation, and cleaning of bus stop locations
  • Must be able to perform work using personal protective equipment as assigned to the position, with a knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures
  • Must have a safe driving record that meets GRTC standards

Responsibilities

  • Provides power steam cleaning of bus stop pads and locations using power steam cleaning equipment
  • May use detergents and specialized solvents to clean bus stop and transit center concrete walkways, pads, and fixtures
  • Clears debris, overgrown forestry, and snow at all listed locations and removes snow from sidewalks within 10 feet of GRTC stops, stations, and or amenities, addressing emergencies when necessary
  • Drive to inspect transit stops/locations, amenities, and stations to conduct routine, periodic, or special inspections of bus stop locations in advance of maintenance and repair work
  • Perform basic assessment of condition or damages and inventory needed for any repairs or replacement of broken benches, trash cans, lighting, signage, etc. and submit work order for issues that need to be resolved in the field
  • Using skills from a variety of construction trades (painting, masonry, carpentry, plumbing, sheet metal work, for example), installs bus stop poles and signs at designated locations, either new installation or replacement
  • Frames and pour concrete pads when necessary for the installation of bus stop fixtures
  • Uses a wide range of hand and power tools to repair, install, and maintain bus stop signs, poles, concrete pads, fixtures, paint sprayers, trash cans, weed eaters, or other equivalent equipment
  • Change posters at bus stops, shelters, etc., and use a pressure washer to remove graffiti as well as touch up paint
  • Drives half and three-quarters ton trucks and pulls a trailer containing power equipment
  • Uses blueprints, diagrams, drawings, and specifications in the installation of bus stop fixtures
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and supplies, perform daily, weekly, and periodic maintenance on assigned equipment, assist in the preventative maintenance schedule, check gasoline, ay test and troubleshoot equipment, and coordinate with the Maintenance Department in the repair of power equipment and vehicles
  • Additional duties and / or tasks may be assigned to continue seamless service for the agency
