About The Position

RK&K is seeking an outgoing, customer-focused individual to join our team as Planner I in support of the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). In this role, you will engage directly with public transit riders on buses, Light Rail, Metro Subway, and MARC Train services to collect survey data and gather valuable feedback about their transit experience. This position plays an important role in helping MTA understand rider needs, identify service improvements, and enhance the overall customer experience throughout the transit network.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently and professionally with the public.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and accuracy in data collection.
  • Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to work throughout the service area.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and evenings, to capture a representative sample of riders

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual skills strongly preferred.
  • Experience conducting surveys, public outreach, customer service, community engagement, or data collection activities.
  • Familiarity with public transportation systems and transit operations.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a public-facing role.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person rider surveys aboard transit vehicles and at transit facilities, ensuring professional and courteous interactions with customers.
  • Collect accurate and complete rider feedback regarding transit usage, satisfaction, service quality, and improvement opportunities.
  • Record survey responses and observations using established data collection methods and tools.
  • Organize and compile collected information to support project reporting and analysis.
  • Assist with identifying trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for enhancing transit services.
  • Communicate findings and field observations to project leadership in a timely and organized manner.
  • Represent RK&K and MTA professionally while interacting with riders from diverse backgrounds.
  • Adhere to project procedures, schedules, safety requirements, and quality standards.
