About The Position

The City of Huntsville’s Public Transit department is seeking qualified applicants to fill our Transit Maintenance Technician II position(s). This is administrative and specialized work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles used in the Public Transit Department. Work involves responsibility for developing and implementing routine vehicle maintenance, repair and inspection of public transit vehicles, and that they receive regular preventative maintenance as prescribed by the manufacture, and that repairs are scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Work also involves inspecting licensed taxicabs and limousines operating in the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances regulating such vehicles.

Requirements

  • High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.
  • Considerable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or fleet management.
  • Commercial Driver's License Class B, with passenger and air brake endorsements.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License Class B, with passenger and air brake endorsements within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing routine vehicle maintenance, repair and inspection of public transit vehicles.
  • Ensuring public transit vehicles receive regular preventative maintenance as prescribed by the manufacturer.
  • Scheduling and completing repairs in a timely manner.
  • Inspecting licensed taxicabs and limousines operating in the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances regulating such vehicles.
