About The Position

The City of Huntsville’s Public Transit department is seeking qualified applicants to fill our Transit Maintenance Technician I (2nd Shift) position(s). This is administrative and specialized work in the inspection, maintenance and repair of vehicles used in the Public Transit Department. Work involves responsibility for developing and implementing routine vehicle maintenance, repair and inspection programs to ensure that public transit vehicles receive regular preventive maintenance as prescribed by the manufacture and that repairs are scheduled and completed in a timely manner. Work also involves inspecting licensed taxicabs and limousines operating in the city to ensure compliance with city ordinances regulating such vehicles.

Requirements

• High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency.
• Considerable experience in vehicle maintenance and repair or fleet management; or any combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must pass the written portion of the CDL, Class B Passenger Endorsement test within six (6) months of hire and/or promotion date.
• Must pass the driving test and obtain a valid CDL, Class B Endorsement within eleven (11) months of hire and/or promotion date.
