About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Superintendent, Transit Maintenance Capital Planning and Contracts and the operational direction of the Senior Stockkeeper perform materials management functions within Transit Stores including but not limited to parts research, sourcing, inventory control, receiving, storage, and issuance of materials required to support Transit Fleet Maintenance operations and ensure the availability of parts necessary to maintain fleet reliability and service delivery.

Requirements

  • Must have demonstrated experience with Inventory Control procedures, normally acquired through relevant work experience or training.
  • Must have experience identifying appropriate parts or materials for specific applications using catalogues, technical documentation, cross-reference tools, or similar resources within a regulated or standards-based environment.
  • Demonstrated experience using computerized inventory or enterprise asset management systems.
  • Must possess a valid Class "G" Ontario Driver's
  • Must be able to be certified, and maintain certification, to use a variety of material handling equipment – forklift truck, electric pallet truck, hand pallet trucks, etc.
  • Physically capable of performing duties that include but are not limited to heavy lifting, crouching, kneeling, reaching with constant standing and walking. Capable of performing these duties in an industrial shop environment with potential exposure to noise, fumes, and dust.
  • Available to work various shifts, including days, afternoons, nights, and weekends in a 24/7 operation.
  • Must be proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, and Excel, along with the ability to perform accurate computerized data entry, retrieval, and spreadsheet-based record management using standard office equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and interact tactfully and professionally with staff, supervision, vendors, and the public.
  • Must pass a Functional Abilities Test.
  • The successful applicant may be required to have a medical to be determined fit to perform the essential duties of the job. This is a condition of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with HxGN EAM is an asset.
  • Purchasing and Inventory Management related education is considered asset
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with automotive or heavy vehicle parts is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain inventory records for parts, materials, tools, and supplies within electronic inventory databases including but not limited to the enterprise inventory management system, ensuring inventory and purchasing data is accurately entered, reviewed, and verified.
  • Order, receive, inspect, store, and issue materials including engines, transmissions, fluids, automotive components, and shop tools; perform shipper/receiver functions including verifying shipments against purchase orders, stocking materials, and using material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet trucks.
  • Research and identify replacement parts using manufacturer documentation, OEM portals, electronic catalogues, and supplier resources; maintain part records including manufacturer numbers, supplier cross-references, and superseded or replacement information.
  • Prepare and process requisitions and inventory transactions related to parts issuance, stock replenishment, and procurement activities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reconcile stock records by performing physical counts and investigating discrepancies related to inventory, purchase orders, supplier documentation, or pricing.
  • Coordinate warranty and core return activities with suppliers, including identifying eligible components, processing returns and claims, and pursuing reimbursement in accordance with warranty and exchange programs.
  • Assist in managing obsolete, surplus, or superseded inventory in accordance with inventory control procedures.
  • Maintain stockroom areas in clean, organized, and safe condition and ensure materials are stored and handled in accordance with operational and safety requirements.
  • Research supplier options and verify product specifications and pricing as required to support procurement activities.
  • Maintain a comprehensive WHMIS catalogue in compliance with applicable legislative requirements.
  • Comply with Transit Division policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
  • Performs other related duties in support of Transit Stores operations as assigned, including participation in process improvements and updates to procedures as required.
