About The Position

The Office of Transportation is seeking a hands-on first-line supervisor to support transit fleet and facility operations through inventory, materials, and equipment management. This role assists with procurement, asset tracking, vendor coordination, fleet maintenance support, and daily operational oversight. Responsibilities include managing fleet inventory and databases, coordinating repairs and inspections with third-party vendors, supporting vehicle onboarding and decommissioning, conducting daily lot checks, and helping troubleshoot minor mechanical issues for transit operators. The position works under the general direction of the Section Chief with considerable independence and decision-making responsibility.

Requirements

  • Must have experience as a Supply/Property Clerk III equal to the length of the probationary period
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • At least three (3) years of experience in varied procurement and materiel management activities including inventory control, warehousing, purchasing, distributing, invoicing, and stocking a broad variety of equipment, materials and supplies.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Any equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience may also be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum two years’ experience working in a transit or fleet operations environment
  • Experience with bus or heavy-duty vehicle fleet operations
  • Familiarity with DOT Safety Regulations as well as pre and post trip inspections/processes
  • Experience with contract/vendor management and accountability
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake and passenger endorsement preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists with oversight of transit fleet and auxiliary equipment maintenance activities.
  • Coordinates with fleet staff and third-party vendors to ensure timely vehicle maintenance, inspections, and repairs.
  • Supports vehicle procurement processes, including bid specifications, onboarding, delivery, inspections, and decommissioning.
  • Maintains preventive maintenance (PM) schedules and records for transit and administrative vehicles.
  • Reviews reported vehicle defects and damages and coordinates corrective actions and repairs.
  • Conducts routine and comprehensive inspections of transit and administrative vehicles to document condition and operational readiness.
  • Monitors fleet warranties and updates warranty records annually.
  • Assists with commissioning new vehicles and decommissioning retired fleet assets, including registrations, decals, and related documentation.
  • Researches and supports procurement of transit-related equipment and technology, including fareboxes, radios, signage, software, and hardware.
  • Monitors contractor maintenance performance and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Performs inventory and supply management activities, including usage analysis, stocking levels, purchasing, requisitions, and cost tracking.
  • Conducts daily lot checks to support successful transit service pullout and assist with operational readiness.
  • Provides oversight of vehicle cleanliness and sanitization standards and initiates repair or service requests as needed.
  • Ensures transit facilities and fleet areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
