About The Position

AASC is seeking reliable, compassionate, and professional Transit Drivers to join our dedicated team. Help us provide safe, dependable transportation services that support seniors in maintaining their independence throughout the following communities: Tazewell County, VA, Russell County, VA, Dickenson County, VA, Buchanan County, VA. Positions are available in each county and drivers are generally assigned to locations within their local service area. Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical, drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass DOT physical, drug and alcohol test and criminal background check.
  • Job requires some lifting up to 50 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous experience preferred.
  • Transit drivers that provide services for Program for All-inclusive Care of the Elderly (PACE) will be required to have one (1) year of experience with the elderly.
  • Transit drivers with Commercial Driver License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide needed passengers with assistance on and off vehicles.
  • Be alert to passenger needs and operate the vehicle in a safe manner.
  • Provide transportation to riders of all ages and to various destinations.
  • Provide necessary services as authorized by the PACE Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
  • Maintain accurate recordkeeping.
  • Transport riders/passengers to and from approved destinations.
  • Assist riders boarding and unboarding when needed.
  • Use proper techniques in assisting passengers, including those in wheelchairs.
  • Assure proper vehicle maintenance is provided, keep vehicle clean and in good operative condition.
  • Observe safe-driving practices including those outlined in Four County Transit's Safe Driving Policies.
  • Pick up and return participants according to a predetermined schedule developed by the PACE Transportation Supervisor.
  • Provide updates on participant problems or concerns to the PACE Transportation Coordinator.
  • Collect fees/contributions with proper reporting.
  • Report any unacceptable behavior or the use of profanity on the vehicle.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to riders or the agency.
  • Refrain from the use of the vehicle for any personal reason.
  • Maintain accurate transportation records as identified by the supervisor.
  • Complete and submit accurate reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in all required training.
  • Demonstrate and maintain good work ethics.
  • Adhere to all applicable agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
