About The Position

The Corporation of the Town of Midland invites applications for the position of Transit Driver (Casual/On-Call, hours are not guaranteed). The successful candidate will be required to complete a Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract, in accordance with the duties of this position. This contract position offers an hourly wage rate of $25.02 to $30.41. Hours are not guaranteed, and shifts include early mornings, late evenings, nights, and holidays.

Requirements

  • Valid Ontario class B/C or F driver’s license with Z endorsement.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of commercial driving experience required.
  • Demonstrated recent experience working with the public, normally acquired through substantial and direct customer-service work that includes interpersonal communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts, including weekends, statutory holidays and split shifts, in all types of weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and comprehension skills, including the ability to complete forms.
  • Efficient problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to withstand or recover from difficult situations while maintaining a high degree of professionalism.
  • A very high degree of punctuality and attendance to support transit operations.
  • Must complete a Criminal Record Check and Driver’s Abstract.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous transit bus driving experience would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate transit vehicles on time and in a proper manner, including during adverse road and weather conditions, on a designated route and schedule.
  • Abide by Highway Traffic Act, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Manual of Operations, all other applicable legislation, Town policies and procedures.
  • Collect fares and issue transfers, while ensuring validity of transfers and passes.
  • Report and document all incidents, accidents and injuries immediately.
  • Assist Operations by reporting relevant information and problems impacting transit services such as route blockages, accident locations, traffic congestion, weather and road conditions.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections.
  • Regulate heating, lighting, ventilation, operate doors and gate etc.
  • Monitor vehicle performance and report any irregularities to Operations.
  • Work as a team player promoting a positive and professional work environment and conduct role with integrity and respect.
  • Act as an Ambassador throughout the community, positively representing the Town.
  • Abide by the policies and procedures of the Town.
  • Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of the Town.
  • Operate within the culture and core values of the organization.
  • Maintain knowledge and expertise in relevant fields.
