About The Position

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at The Ohio State University is seeking a Transfer Admissions Counselor to strategically impact the future of Ohio State through the recruitment, admission, and support of outstanding students. This role is part of the Outreach and Recruitment team, responsible for recruiting prospective students. The position is located in the Student Academic Services Building and involves working closely with a team of approximately 30 full-time staff members and a broader Undergraduate Admissions team of 55. The role experiences peak seasons from August through May due to the cyclical nature of admissions work. The position offers in-office or hybrid work hours (3 days in office, 2 days work from home) ranging from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, but will require early morning, evening, and weekend hours at various times during the year to accommodate outreach and recruitment programs, including those in different international time zones.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Experience using office desktop technology.
  • Early morning, evening, and weekend hours required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a recruitment territory for transfer students, executing territory-specific recruitment activities and events in collaboration with partner offices using data, reports, and analysis tools/technology.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with high schools, community-based organizations, and community colleges.
  • Travel to high schools, community colleges, and college fairs to represent The Ohio State University, with possible/extensive travel up to 10 weeks per year, potentially 3-4 consistent weeks in a given semester.
  • Make recruitment calls to prospective students.
  • Enter fiscal transactions and travel-related expenses following university policy.
  • Analyze prospective student data.
  • Learn and use the Empowering Market Analysis (EMA) system, CRM (Salesforce), Student Information System, and other technologies to perform timely and accurate entries into databases regarding student application information, call/email activity, and other processes, performing data validation.
  • Manage electronic workflows.
  • Plan events and develop transfer-specific communication to support the enrollment of transfer students.
  • Collaborate with academic units and oversee activities of military-connected students, collaborating with Military and Veterans Services to support the recruitment and enrollment of military-connected students.
  • Respond to emails and calls regarding military and veteran questions, and represent Ohio State at military-sponsored recruitment events.
  • Counsel and correspond with students, families, university departments, or other stakeholders regarding The Ohio State University undergraduate admissions policies, procedures, and general information over the phone, via email, and in person.
  • Conduct large and small-group presentations.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of the areas within the office and university to best direct questions from staff and guests.
  • Research and resolve problems.
  • Assist with on and off-campus recruitment events and projects.
  • Coordinate recruitment for special programs, as assigned, which may include transfer, veterans, and College Credit Plus.
  • Provide support to access on/off-campus programs and initiatives.
  • Review applications (domestic, international, transfer, special population) and make admissions recommendations through a holistic application review process.
  • Participate as an active member of the Undergraduate Admissions team through committee membership.
  • Complete special assignments and other duties as assigned.
