About The Position

In this role, you'll provide leadership in managing and driving performance of the Transmission system. Provide both routine performance reporting, and performance analysis and insight to identify potential and necessary system or asset improvements. Oversee internal and external bench marking to ensure that performance of AEP system and asset monitoring systems is meeting established targets and is comparable or better than that of our industry peers. Develop growth strategies, programs, and capital forecasts related to system and asset condition monitoring systems, which are expected to exceed $10 Million annually. Develop long-term maintenance and renewal plans for AEP system and asset monitoring infrastructure. Oversee day-to-day operation and continued development of AEP Transmission Asset Health Center (AHC) and lead work with stakeholders across to organization to integrate the metrics generated by the AHC into capital improvement and maintenance planning processes. Develop permanent strategic relationships with other asset-owning parts of the AEP organization (Generation & Distribution in particular) to leverage the monitoring technologies AEP Transmission has deployed for the benefit of all of its customers. Support Transmission Operations and Field Services organizations in addressing real-time asset condition issues and developing appropriate action plans. Oversee day to day operation and continued development of AEP Transmission existing Synchrophasor and Power Quality data gathering infrastructure, as well as any new system or asset monitoring systems deployed in the future that require.

Requirements

Bachelor degree in engineering or related technical field of study.
Minimum of 8 years of engineering or statistical analysis experience.
Demonstrated mastery of oral and written communication appropriate to the audience, including senior leadership presentations.

Nice To Haves

Master's degree in Business or Engineering preferred.
Minimum of three years of Asset Health Prediction and analysis is preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead a 24x7 Realtime Response team responsible for proactive, analytics‑driven monitoring, analysis, and response across the electric grid.
Oversee a multidisciplinary team focused on advanced data analytics, real‑time situational awareness, and support regulatory compliance tasks, transforming large volumes of operational and monitoring data into actionable intelligence that improves system reliability, reduces risk, and strengthens compliance outcomes.
Deliver a centralized, scalable monitoring and response center that integrates system analytics, alarm management, and compliance guardrails to support Transmission, System Operations, Engineering, and Field partners.
Bridge real‑time operations and advanced analytics, ensuring emerging issues are identified early, escalated appropriately, and resolved efficiently, often without requiring field intervention.
Direct the budgeting, planning, development, implementation, and operation of an Asset Health Center (AHC) strategy and systems to support decisions for operation, maintenance and replacement of major equipment based on condition and trends.
Support region operations in applying AHC for effective condition-based maintenance programs.
Direct the budgeting, planning, development, implementation, and operation of AEP Transmission Synchrophasor and Power Quality data gathering systems.
Support region operations and RTO (PJM, SPP, ERCOT) requirements in using the data from these systems for operational decision making.
Direct the scoping, development, implementation, and commissioning of new commercially available system and asset monitoring technologies on the AEP Transmission system, through capital programs or stand-alone projects.
Provide direct support to the different regional operations and maintenance groups in identifying real-time asset condition issues and developing appropriate action plans to remediate.
Direct the troubleshooting and remediation of data quality issues with deployed system and asset monitoring devices.
Provide reporting on the performance of AEP system and asset monitoring systems.
Provide direct guidance to other groups in the Transmission organization on monitoring package standards development.
Provide lessons learned and improvement strategies for system and asset performance through root cause analysis, and event analysis processes, identifying key performance drivers.
Provide leadership and oversight of system and asset data processes and tools required for performance management.
Direct internal and external best practices and bench marking efforts as necessary to provide support for asset performance improvement and to support regulatory inquiries.
Lead technical analysis and business case development for new programs, ventures or commercialization of the AEP Asset Health Center.
