About The Position

As the only aerial tramway in Southeast Alaska, guests at the Goldbelt Tram are invited to soar to new heights in scenic adventure aboard Juneau's top attraction. We offer locals and visitors an opportunity to experience breathtaking Alaska scenery, explore the miles of trails atop Mount Roberts, and learn more about Alaska Native culture. The Tram Operator is responsible for being knowledgeable of operational and emergency procedures and related equipment needed to perform the assigned duties. All personnel shall use reasonable care while performing their duties. This job is based in Juneau, Alaska, and applicants are expected to either live in Juneau or be open to relocating at their own expense.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to meet time and attendance requirements.
Ability to work all schedules including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Ability to handle stress under pressure.
Ability to provide quality customer service.
Ability to physically lower passengers and repel out of the tramway cabin under the direction of the Director of Ops & Facilities and staff, also to be able to switch to Auxiliary Mode of operation (backup).
Excellent communication and superior customer service skills.
Ability to problem solve a situation, including the identification of consequences resulting from the correct/incorrect operation of aerial tramway equipment.
Ability to learn, understand and follow verbal and/or written instructions.
Skill in operating personal computer utilizing a variety of computer software.
Working knowledge/familiarity of tram operations systems.
Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
Ability to balance the requirements of focusing totally on center console operation and providing service to walk-up inquirers.
Ability to work directly with the public, providing prompt and courteous information and assistance on an as needed basis.
Ability/willingness to learn and pass on to guests those areas of interest to visitors, such as local history, people, culture, geography, etc.
Ability to stay calm, cool and collected in the event of a tram operation stoppage of any kind, guests riding with you will be looking to you for guidance and/or direction.
Ability to successfully pass a background check.
Completion of one season as a Tram Cabin Conductor (with GATI), or as an aerial tram operator/attendant elsewhere or other relevant experience.
Current CPR Certification and First Aid training or ability obtain within 30 days.

Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

Assume responsible charge of the aerial tramway and of Tram Control and its equipment, including the console which controls the movement and operation of the aerial tramway cars, all tramway starts, and maintains all operational logs as required by the ANSI code.
Assist the Tram Operations Supervisor with making daily or shift assignments and supervision of all Tram Attendants.
Verify preoperational inspection is completed and documented before public operation.
Start the aerial tramway while operating for the public.
Maintain operational log as required.
Deny access to the aerial tramway to any person, using procedures and criteria provided.
Advise the Tram Operations Supervisor of observed abnormal or unusual conditions that may adversely affect the safety of the operation.
Terminate passenger operations.
Handle normal operational and emergency evacuation procedures, including emergency rope evacuation and rescue car operations, and initiate action to notify emergency response personnel.
Start the standby diesel engine generator as directed by the Tram Operations Manager or Tram Maintenance Supervisor.
Communicate with all Tram Attendants regarding passenger load, all stages of movement, and problems.
Monitor weather patterns and report them to maintenance as needed.
Monitor water system.
May function as a Tram Attendant during normal operation and/or unexpected staff absences, emergencies, and/or break relief for Tram Attendants.
Perform other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
