About The Position

The Tram Driver is responsible for operating the TRAM efficiently and safely on Alcatraz Island. The role includes providing friendly, professional service to visitors, maintaining the TRAM, and driving skillfully to provide a comfortable ride while minimizing hazards. The driver also manages boarding lines and crowd control at the Alcatraz dock. This position is in a union environment with bid schedules.

Requirements

Valid state-issued driver's license.
Clean driving record.
Clearance through the preemployment background check.
Two years of customer service experience.
TWIC required.
Demonstrated good driving skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including conflict resolution skills.
Open schedule and ability to work any assigned schedule, including holidays and weekends.
Ability to work 8-hour shifts that may start as early as 8:20 a.m. or end as late as 10:00 p.m.
Subject to random drug screenings.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of a language other than English.

Responsibilities

Drive the tram safely according to driving guidelines in National Park Service Standard Operating Procedures.
Prepare the SEAT for daily operations before the shift begins.
Perform and log daily maintenance and safety checks, and report maintenance requirements to the Supervisor within the specified timeframe.
Monitor and maintain a safe environment for visitors riding and disembarking from the tram.
Maintain SEAT arrival and departure schedules within safety guidelines.
Advise visitors about site safety as necessary.
Manage boarding and offloading for arrivals and departures, ensuring boats depart in a timely manner.
Complete training courses deemed appropriate for the SEAT Driver job.
Know National Park Service emergency procedures and respond when emergencies arise.
Monitor and maintain a safe environment for riders and visitors walking on roadways.
Perform other duties as assigned.
