About The Position

Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Training Systems Engineer (Principal or Senior Principal Level) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Avionics organization. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL. In this role as the Training Systems Engineer, you must possess experience and knowledge of ground system requirements, design, implementation, integration, and test and associated hardware and software solutions.

Requirements

  • At a Principal Level: Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 5 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 3 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least years of relevant military / professional experience
  • At a Senior Principal Level: Bachelors degree in a STEM field and at least 8 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM field and at least 6 years of relevant military / professional experience, OR a PhD and at least 4 years of relevant military / professional experience
  • Active US Government Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Experience in ground subsystems development for military aircraft weapon systems.
  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels.

Nice To Haves

  • DODD 8570 certifications, such as CompTIA Security+, CISSP, Security +.
  • Working knowledge of cyber security, STIGs and associated elements.

Responsibilities

  • Create supplier statements of work and conduct requirements analysis to generate subsystem technical requirements documentation.
  • Perform trade studies, modeling, performance analysis, and Technology Readiness Level (TRL) evaluation of current and future supplier offerings.
  • Develop and control functional and physical architectures and interfaces; maintain baseline technical-requirements documentation.
  • Design and develop ground-systems architectures, including hardware/software integration, certification, and detailed schematics/diagrams/specifications.
  • Produce detailed designs (and delta designs where applicable) for specific trainers: Landing Gear Trainer, Aerial Refueling Receptacle Trainer, Hydraulics System Trainer, Electrical System Trainer, Fuel System Trainer, Environmental Control System Trainer, Power Plant System Trainer, Auxiliary Power Unit Trainer, Flight Control System Trainer, Mission Avionics Systems Trainer (MAST).
  • Support GSC with RFPs, purchase-order status, and development of performance-based specifications, statements of work, and supplier documentation.
  • Build supplier evaluation criteria, conduct technical evaluations, document results, and assist with supplier selection.
  • Review supplier development documents, attend technical interchange meetings, and support design reviews.
  • Manage compliance with verification cross-reference matrix for hardware, software, and subsystem-level testing.
  • Oversee supplier manufacturing and test processes, resolve testing issues, and review/accept supplier test and verification reports.
  • Support technical planning, system integration, deployment/delivery, and conduct supportability and effectiveness analyses for ground subsystems.
  • Interpret, allocate, tailor, write, and flow down requirements across all levels of the system architecture.
  • Work directly with partners, suppliers, engineers, and program stakeholders to integrate mission planning solutions that meet platform mission objectives.
  • A successful Ground Element Responsible Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams, consistently brings concerns, issues and risks to program and technical leadership and holds the team to a high level of technical rigor.
