About The Position

The Training Supervisor is responsible for the proper training and re-training of designated employees, including safety education, accident prevention, loss control, post-accident procedures, and regulatory compliance. This role ensures accurate recordkeeping related to DOT, CHP, and other applicable regulations. The Training Supervisor may also provide backup to the Training Manager as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required
  • Must hold Transportation Safety Institute (TSI) instructor certification
  • Must have a current CA Class “B” Commercial Driver License with airbrakes and passenger endorsement
  • Must have a valid medical examiners certificate
  • Must have a valid VTT certification
  • Must have had CA Class B CDL with passenger endorsement for a minimum of 2 full years
  • Must have at least 3 years’ progressive transit experience with commercial class “B” vehicles in a fixed route transit system
  • Knowledgeable with DOT policies, OSHA, NIMS, EPA standards and ADA requirements
  • Experience developing and implementing safety and training program plans and procedures; conducting investigations, analyzing data, and identifying and recommending corrective action
  • Must maintain confidentiality and safeguarding of sensitive material
  • Conducting oral presentations, relaying technical information in understandable terms
  • Experience in training qualified candidates for employment
  • Able to work without direct supervision
  • Must be able and willing to work flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Must be able to work in a union environment
  • Must know the geographical area where Tri Delta Transit operates
  • Must be able to multitask in a fast-paced work environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse workforce
  • Possess a working knowledge of adult education principles and practices
  • Possess the skills necessary to write and express oneself orally in a logical, comprehensive and intelligent manner, as well as good organizational skills

  • Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
  • Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all training is compliant with State and Federal regulations and the local contract.
  • Maintain accurate training files and training tracking reports.
  • Conduct monthly audits for safety-sensitive employee DOT physical and license renewals and random drug and alcohol compliance.
  • Investigate and recommend on reports of hazardous locations, situations, or events.
  • Backup Road Supervisor and could be used in revenue service in the event of an emergency.
  • Support the overall safety program as directed by the Safety Manager.
  • Assist the Safety Manager in coordinating and facilitating monthly safety meetings and serve as a member of the safety committee.
  • Manage and investigate near-miss reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Teach and support the overall safety program, including introductory OSHA training, introductory training for dispatchers, and training for road supervisors on accident investigation.
  • Provide coaching and counseling to employees to correct behavior not meeting operational standards.
  • Teach and coordinate new-hire bus operator training, including classroom theory, behind-the-wheel, and route training for existing CDL holders and CDL candidates.
  • Supervise new bus operators in training, including training, work assignment, performance management, and progressive corrective action up to termination of employment.
  • Interview and hire new bus operators.
  • Operate and teach correct operation on each type of bus on site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
