About The Position

Compass Connections is a Texas-based non-profit organization with over a century of collective child welfare experience, dedicated to impacting and meeting the needs of vulnerable children and families through residential care, community-based support, foster care, and adoption services. We are a national leader in connecting, strengthening, and transforming families globally. This role is for a Training Specialist who will be responsible for developing and delivering training programs to staff, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and contributing to the overall development and success of our post release and home study programs.

Requirements

  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services or social services.
  • With a master’s degree - At least three (3) years of progressive employment experience in these fields that demonstrate supervisory and case management experience OR with bachelor’s degree – At least five (5) years of progressive employment experience in these fields that demonstrate supervisory and case management experience.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens throughout employment.
  • Provide proof of work eligibility status upon request.
  • Pass a pre-employment and biennial criminal background checks.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers and professionals.
  • Demonstrate the ability to: Organize and prioritize responsibilities and duties efficiently.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services fields.
  • First aid, CPR, Emergency behavior intervention certifications.
  • Child welfare and experience in working with immigrant populations.

Responsibilities

  • Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards applicable to this position.
  • Provide release and home study staff relevant training that meets agency, licensing, and contract requirements and the individual needs of each staff.
  • Consistently provide and update training for state and federally funded programs, community services and other stakeholders.
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute a staff training calendar that provides staff numerous opportunities for development including evening and overnight shifts.
  • Maintain a staff training database that provides monthly and quarterly reports related to training and the impact of training on program practices and outcomes.
  • Maintain post release and home study program personnel files, training records and training certifications.
  • Develop professional relationships with other peers in the field, including private agencies and supporting agencies.
  • Work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed or requested by position supervisor.
  • Implement Compass Connections safety protocols in case of an emergency.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and team decisions and operations.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all areas of the service population and program operations.
  • Maintain Compass Connections professional and ethical standards of conduct outlined in Compass Connections employee handbook including demonstrating respect for agency staff, the service population, and community members and complying with required dress code at all times.
  • Establish and implement a training strategy and goals for the post release and home study programs.
  • Develop and continually update program training manuals and materials.
  • Frequently travel from one location to another inclusive of distances greater than 50 miles from home office.
  • Meet all deadlines required by program supervisor and federal partners.
  • Foster Care Programs - Support, encourage, and recruit foster parents.
