About The Position

Perfetti Van Melle, a global leader in confectionery and chewing gum manufacturing, is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Training Operator for their 12-hour night shift. This role involves performing all functions related to the operation, maintenance, and quality control of packaging and process equipment to ensure high-quality product output. The Training Operator will be responsible for day-to-day plant activities, promoting safety, food safety, and clear communication within a team environment. A strong emphasis is placed on maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, and good manufacturing practices.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 months experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Required knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • SharePoint, SAP, Smartsheet
  • Ability to prepare written communication to deliver the proper message and share verbal communications in team or group settings
  • Ability to lead a team to resolve problems and improve results and utilize basic lean tools to solve problems
  • Ability to recognize when company resources/information are needed
  • Ability to locate company resources, evaluate, and use effectively and coach others to do the same
  • Ability to engage people across work boundaries to solve issues
  • Ability to communicate with the maintenance department and report mechanical issues
  • Communicate effectively with supervisor and management by reporting any mechanical or cleaning problems

Responsibilities

  • Perform all functions associated with the start-up, shutdown, lockout, sanitation, and operation of packaging and/or process equipment.
  • Produce high-quality product that meets or exceeds targets for cost and quality.
  • Responsible for day-to-day plant activities, working in a team environment that promotes safety, food safety, and clear communication.
  • Hold safety to the highest standard and maintain good manufacturing practices with emphasis in quality and food safety.
  • Monitor and maintain proper product quality, appearance, weight, etc., making adjustments, documenting, and communicating as required.
  • Monitor and maintain proper packaging quality, appearance, code dates, etc.
  • Monitor metal detector CCP in accordance with HACCP programs.
  • Efficiently operate and monitor all process and/or packaging equipment to maintain product flow.
  • Operate automated equipment including touchscreens, electronic sensors, controllers, actuators, photo eyes, and motors.
  • Supply, load, and unload machines.
  • Handle scrap and waste from the machine as necessary.
  • Order raw and packaging materials.
  • Routinely clean and maintain equipment and work area.
  • Responsible for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual sanitation tasks.
  • Make equipment changes, adjustments, and minor repairs as necessary.
  • Assist mechanics with troubleshooting issues and repairing equipment during breakdowns.
  • Perform minor preventative maintenance to minimize downtime and prevent breakdowns.
  • Coach others to maintain standards in their work area, setting or reinforcing expectations for the team and following up to verify behavior meets expectations.
  • Identify employee training needs and train others, coaching others to do the same.
  • Proactively build and maintain productive working relationships with all people, coaching others to do the same.
  • Know who to go to and where to go to get good information and engage others to make appropriate decisions.
  • Communicate and escalate issues.
  • Deliver feedback in a professional and positive manner.
  • Ensure job positions are adequately staffed at shift change and oversee operation of production lines to ensure efficient production, sanitation, PM work, and changeover against the schedule.
  • Schedule and arrange for temporary employees as required for daily line staffing, working directly with the staffing agency.
  • Process beginning and ending shift paperwork in conjunction with other shift lead.
  • Accurately complete all production paperwork and work closely with the production schedule to attain daily targets.
  • Keep supervisor abreast of any employee issues or concerns and make recommendations for disciplinary actions.
  • Perform in all manufacturing positions for coverage during employee absences.
