A Training Officer plans, develops, organizes, conducts, and implements employee development, technical, and multi-day in-service training programs. The role may involve leading office support personnel but does not include full supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from an administrative superior. Most employees work a conventional workweek, though some departments may require shift work. Work may take place in an office or classroom under normal conditions, or in the field with possible exposure to dust, vehicular traffic, and inclement weather. The position regularly involves minimal to moderate walking and standing and occasional strenuous exertion when lifting or transferring heavy objects needed for training activities. Some positions may require specialized technical knowledge, a Maryland Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License or acceptable equivalent, or certificates in defensive driving and First Aid/CPR instruction. Where required, the instructor certificates must be obtained and maintained within six months of hire as a condition of continued employment. Candidates under final consideration must authorize release of criminal conviction information. Selected candidates must complete a mandatory six-month probation. Qualified candidates may be considered for vacancies as they arise for at least six months.
