About The Position

The Training Manager assists with the scheduling, coordination, and delivery of assigned training sessions for associates within the agency, ensuring compliance with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) requirements. A primary responsibility of this position is to serve as a trainer and/or backup trainer for all training sessions. This position will ensure required associate orientation content is delivered consistently, effectively, and in accordance with regulatory and agency standards. Working under the guidance of the Associate Director for Education & Training, the Training Manager supports training activities across agency locations as assigned and assists with coordinating training schedules, learning opportunities, and training resources. Both in-person and virtual training will be required, with an emphasis on interactive participation. The Training Manager is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the agency’s Volunteer and Internship Program, including onboarding and orientation. In addition to training responsibilities, the Training Manager assists with assigned agency investigations in accordance with OPWDD and Justice Center Incident Management requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Human Services, Organizational Development, or a related field, or High School Diploma with a minimum of 3 years of experience in training or staff development.
  • Experience supporting or delivering training in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Strong presentation, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to use technology and learning platforms to support training.
  • Demonstrated understanding of OPWDD regulations, Core Competencies, and Code of Ethics.
  • Knowledge of services supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple training responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make sound decisions within established policies and procedures.
  • Experience working with adult learners.
  • Familiarity with training management systems such as Relias and Ceridian.
  • SCIP-R Trainer the Trainer certification with the ability to train others (within the first 6 months)
  • Certified in CPR and First Aid with the ability to train others (within the first 6 months)
  • Valid driver’s license for the state in which the person resides
  • Acceptable safe driving record
  • Will be required to enroll in LENS (Licensed Event Notification System).

Responsibilities

  • Assist with coordinating and delivering assigned training sessions that meet OPWDD regulatory requirements and agency standards.
  • Ensure documentation of training completion and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as a resource for associates regarding OPWDD Core Competencies and Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain required training certifications.
  • Assist with assigned investigations of reportable incidents under the direction of leadership, ensuring objectivity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Complete investigative documentation and submit findings within required regulatory timelines.
  • Maintain confidentiality related to investigations.
  • Assist in identifying potential training opportunities or corrective actions based on findings from investigations.
  • Assist with updating training materials as directed to maintain compliance.
  • Audit associate records to confirm proof of required training and certifications.
  • Maintain accurate training records within the Relias systems.
  • Assist with scheduling training sessions to support program operations and staffing needs.
  • Support the use of cost-effective training methods and technologies when appropriate.
  • Assist with administrative functions related to training coordination.
  • Collaborate with leadership and program staff to help identify associate training needs.
  • Assist with scheduling orientation sessions as needed.
  • Embed person-centered practices into all training activities and discussions.
  • Ensure training reinforces respect for the rights, preferences, and choices of people supported by the agency.
  • Encourage associates to develop skills that promote dignity, independence, and meaningful community participation.
  • Model inclusive communication and decision-making practices.
  • Reinforce the importance of dignity and respect when discussing incidents, investigations, or training scenarios.
  • Serve as a trainer and/or backup trainer for all training sessions.
  • Facilitate training sessions using established materials and a variety of instructional formats, including classroom instruction, experiential learning, coaching, and online training.
  • Support instructors with scheduling, communication, and coordination of assigned training activities.
  • Serve as a training resource for associates, providing guidance and follow-up support as directed.
  • Represent the Agency on internal or external committees as assigned.
  • Maintain safe, organized, and functional training environments and equipment.
  • Handle assignments with professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion.
  • Assist with delivering training materials to accommodate different learning styles under direction.
  • Deliver both in-person and virtual training sessions, encouraging active participation.
  • Recruit, onboard and orient volunteers and interns.
  • Maintain records related to volunteer and internship participation.
  • Maintain an environment that encourages learning and professional development.
  • Follow OPWDD and OSHA, and Agency safety guidance.
  • Participate in the Agency Safety Committee as requested.
  • Reinforce safety practices and incident reporting procedures through training activities.
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with associates, leadership, and external partners.
  • Represent the Agency in internal and external communications consistent with the agency’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Collaborate with management and instructors to identify training needs and support associate development.
  • Serve as a contact for volunteers, interns, and educational partners as assigned.
  • Participate in agency committees, initiatives, and training projects as assigned.
  • Demonstrate creativity in assisting with training activities.
  • Adapt training approaches to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Maintain strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Support consistent training practices across multiple agency locations.
  • Maintain comfort with public speaking, group facilitation, and one-on-one instruction.
  • Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • Travel between agency locations as required.
  • Maintain flexibility in scheduling, including occasional evenings or weekends when training needs require.
